TOXIC KaLiMBaH (2010-2011)

Wood, Basil oil, Shea Butter, Pigments

20 x 15 x 9cms

Ben Browton found this basic thumb piano in the basement of the Hastings Trust. He lovingly restored the keys of the instrument, and added the wooden sides.

The sound recording TOXIC KaLiMBaH ‘Refrain’ (2011) features this neglected instrument played by Ben Browton. The recording also features a selection of domestic items such as a wok and a whisk, and a treasured vecchio “Francesco Perretti & Figli” Neopolitan parlour guitar.

This work will be shown along with ancillaries as TOXIC Trinity (2013) in St Barnabas Church in Bexhill as part of ‘Navigate’ Bexhill Art Trail. Supported by De La Warr Pavilion and Coastal Currents 2013. Bless. See also Dervish say;

  1. First off I want to say awesome blog! I had a quick question that I’d like to ask if you do
    not mind. I was curious to find out how you center yourself and clear your head prior to writing.
    I’ve had a tough time clearing my thoughts in getting my thoughts out
    there. I do enjoy writing however it just seems like the
    first 10 to 15 minutes are usually wasted just trying to figure out how to begin. Any suggestions or
    hints? Cheers!
